Overview

The Production Artist creates, edits, and prepares high-resolution digital artwork for print and electronic distribution. Working under the direction of the Managing Senior Editor or designated department lead, this position manages graphic projects from initial layout through final production-ready output. This role collaborates with departments across the organization to develop and deliver accurate, high-quality visual materials that meet established branding, product, production, and quality standards. The Production Artist is responsible for maintaining organized and accessible project files, supporting efficient workflows, and ensuring the timely completion of assignments in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, and prepare high-resolution digital artwork for print and electronic distribution, supporting both internal and external business needs.
  • Retrieve graphics from the company’s digital asset repository and edit images to meet established product, branding, and production standards.
  • Utilize Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, QuarkXPress, Microsoft Office applications, and related production tools to develop, edit, and deliver production-ready files from initial layout through final artwork.
  • Update book covers, digital media artwork, business cards, signs, event flyers, presentation graphics, posters, splash screens, icons, software images, editorial graphics, photographs, and line-art illustrations.
  • Produce high-quality graphics for CRM marketing materials, including logos, coupons, postcards, and other customer-facing promotional assets.
  • Operate image conversion and print-production software to convert file formats, organize print workflows, and manage output to ensure efficient and accurate production.
  • Complete high-volume printing and assemble binders, posters, and related production materials as assigned.
  • Develop and implement effective design concepts for a variety of projects, balancing creative vision with functional requirements to ensure compliance with brand identity, quality standards, and production processes.
  • Maintain current project files within the graphics network filing system, adhering to established naming conventions and directory structures to ensure accessibility and efficient collaboration among graphics team members and internal customers.
  • Manage competing deadlines and multiple project assignments, demonstrating flexibility in adapting to changing priorities while ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality completion of all work.
  • Collaborate effectively with requestors and departmental teams to define project specifications, communicate expectations, and deliver high-quality printed and digital materials that meet organizational standards, deadlines, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of graphics software, file formats, image conversion procedures, digital production practices, and print production workflows, applying industry and departmental best practices to improve quality, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain responsibility for the successful completion of assigned work, ensuring all deliverables are accurate, meet quality expectations, are production-ready, completed within required timeframes, and properly organized for efficient retrieval and collaboration.
  • Perform additional projects and assignments as needed, supporting departmental objectives and business priorities as directed by the Graphics Manager, department leadership, or cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Five years of training in computer graphics and graphic production, or an equivalent combination of training and on-the-job experience. (required)
  • Demonstrate professional-level expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, QuarkXPress, Microsoft Office applications, graphic repository platforms, image file conversion tools, and print command workstation software, ensuring the efficient production, management, and delivery of high-quality print and digital assets. (required)
  • Additional education or advanced training in graphic design, visual communications, digital production, or related discipline. (preferred)
  • Certifications: No specific certification required.

 

Years of Experience:

  • Five years of computer graphics and graphic production training or equivalent on-the-job experience. (required)
  • Five years of experience preparing and delivering print and digital production files in a deadline-driven production environment. (preferred)
